LOOKING FOR A REPUTABLE DOGGIE DAYCARE OR BOARDING FACILITY?

SO MANY CHOICES, HOW DOES ONE DECIDE?

DO YOU MAKE YOUR DECISION BASED ON CONVENIENCE? PRICE? A REFERRAL FROM A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER WITHOUT EVER CHECKING THE FACILITY OUT?

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHATS BEST FOR YOUR BEST FRIEND?

NOT ALL PLACES ARE EQUAL, AND IT’S YOUR JOB TO FIND OUT.

HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS TO ASK:

Q: How many years have they been in business?

Pet Companions, Bed & Biscuit has been in business for 27 years. We are recognized as the nation’s first cage-less boarding and daycare facility.

Q: Do they have an outside yard?

Bed & Biscuit has two large outside yards full of toys and tennis balls. There are also picnic blankets for them to lie on and sunbathe.

Q: Are you allowed to view the whole facility?

Bed & Biscuit has an observation area that is always available to clients to view outside yard. We also have 24-hour cameras throughout the house to view dogs when they are inside, and where they sleep.

Q: How much outside time do they get?

At the Bed & Biscuit, our doors are always open for dogs to go in and out at will. The inside is climate controlled year round, and we have umbrellas and pools outside for the summer.

Q: What kind of ground covering do they have?

At the Bed & Biscuit, we have rounded pea stone, which is bleached daily. This ensures proper cleaning and drainage.

Q: Do they have any toys?

At the Bed & Biscuit, we have many play structures for them to play on, pools to waddle in, and tennis balls to play with. Pools are changed several times per day and tennis balls are washed weekly.

Q: How are dogs evaluated and accepted into the daycare program?

Judy has been evaluating dogs for 27 years. We only accept 70% of dogs that we meet.

Q: How is your dog behaviorally managed?

At the Bed & Biscuit, we use the Gentle Method™. When a dog excessively barks, mounts, or plays too rough, staff walks over to the dog, makes them sit and holds them on leash for a 5-10 second time out.

Q: How are dogs fed?

At the Bed & Biscuit, we feed one dog at a time in a private feeding room.

Q: How do they keep track of how much a dog eats?

At the Bed & Biscuit, our staff tracks how much and how often a dog eats, which lets us know that the dog is feeling okay.

Q: How is medicine distributed?

At the Bed & Biscuit, each dog requiring medication administration receives an individual medication cassette to ensure proper dosage.

Q: How often do they clean? What do they use?

At the Bed & Biscuit, we bleach the indoor and outdoor areas every night. Bleach is the only liquid that kills bacteria.

Q: When is the last time they had a kennel cough outbreak?

At the Bed & Biscuit, we require yearly kennel cough vaccinations to prevent outbreaks. There have not been any reported cases at the Bed & Biscuit since 2010.

Q: What do they do if a dog gets hurt?

The Bed & Biscuit is conveniently located 5 minutes away from a 24-hour emergency hospital.

Q: Are dogs crated during the day for a nap? For how long?

At Bed & Biscuit, they never take a nap unless they want to or their parents request it.

Q: Is management or the owner on premises?

Bed & Biscuit has management on the premises every day. The owner and general manager are here 5 days a week, and the assistant manager is here nights and weekends.

Q: Are they fully insured?

We are fully insured, including our commercial vehicles.

Q: How much training does staff receive?

At the Bed & Biscuit, all staff initially receives 20 hours of training before they are allowed on the floor. They also receive ongoing training.

Q: Do they have 24 hour care?

The Bed & Biscuit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We have overnight staff that sleeps in the room with the dogs.

Q: How much does staff get paid?

We believe this is an important question to ask because of the quality and commitment of care that your pup receives, and the quality of staff we employ. At Bed & Biscuit, we start our staff at $11.00 per hour for part time and $13.00 for full time staff. We also offer 50% coverage for health insurance.
